3 Web Trends to Watch in 2018
by Kate Neri | Jan 16, 2018
New year, new trends.
Here at Syrup, we’re constantly staying up to date with the latest web trends, keeping up with the industry so we can leverage the freshest of fresh ideas for our clients. 2018 is sure to bring us plenty of big changes, but there are 3 trends that we think could have a huge impact on the success of your website this year.
- User Experience (UX): Strategic movement: Thanks to technology and the advancement of the internet, animation is now more accessible (and better looking) across more browsers and devices than ever before. From micro-animations like buttons wiggling, to more complex movements like scroll-triggered animation, motion can be the key to creating richer interactions, translating information in more efficient ways, and ultimately driving and retaining engagement.
In a world where everything and everyone is vying for our attention, animation adds a dynamic dimension to an otherwise flat landscape and can easily capture and retain your visitors.
- Design: Pushing the limits of color: We certainly got a taste of this in 2017, but we don’t see this slowing down in 2018. Exploration of extended color pallets, the use of contrasting bright colors, and then the willingness to push the way color is used in the digital space can help set a brand apart and provide a user experience that is eye-catching and engaging.
We love what Dropbox recently did, extending their color pallet and pushing the limits of bright, contrasting colors to better tell their brand story.
- Development: Being secure: It feels like every day we hear about another hacker or major data breach and thus, are constantly on edge about the safety and security of our own personal information. This concern translates to web as well and will continue to be a major focus in web design and development this year. Google emphasizes that by going as far as favoring sites in search results that feature encrypted connections (like SSL). That little lock at the top of your browser and the “S” in HTTPS will no longer be optional in 2018, but essential for any website.
People will only engage with your website, download your content, and share their information if they trust you.
Dynamic, bold, and trusted.
2018 will be the year we leverage animation and color to build powerful websites that tell compelling stories, build trust, and drive engagement.
